High Court judge, Mrs Justice Land has rejected Sea & Land Power & Energy Ltd's plans for four giant turbines near Hemsby, Great Yarmouth on the grounds that "national renewabale energy targets do not negate the local landscape policies". Local communities need to be empowered to decide for themselves how they want to contribute to tackling climate change by identifying those areas where onshore wind is, and isn't, appropriate.
CPRE has just publiished new research* that highlights the proliferation of onshore wind turbines. We need more renewable energy, however, wind turbine proposals are increasingly threatening valued landscapes, like the North Wessex Downs AONB, and some of the most tranquil areas of England.
Please join us in calling for a better approach to onshore wind development. Please contact the Energy and Climate Change Secretary, Ed Davey, to tackle this critical issue to protect the Berkshire landscape or email your MP.
