The High Sheriff of the Royal County of Berkshire, Catherine Stevenson, joined the Trustees of the CPRE Berkshire Branch (Campaign to Protect Rural England) at Englefield Branch Office to award prizes to the winners of the Dorothy Morley Conservation Award 2010 . The High Sheriff congratulated the winners and CPRE for raising the profile of preserving our heritage in the countryside and developing an understanding of what it means to have a sustainable future. The two projects encourage young people to value the natural environment and interact with it.
Awards were made to the winning schools: Charters School, Sunningdale, Ascot for their “sensory garden” created at St Christopher’s Hospice – first prize of £1,000; and to Mrs Bland’s Infant & Nursery School at Burghfield Common for their Wildlife Garden – second prize of £500 for their environmental conservation projects which involved parents, teachers, students and the wider community.
Other Berkshire schools to receive Certificates of Achievement are: Bradfield College, Bradfield, The Hawthorns Primary School, Wokingham, Lowbrook Primary School, Maidenhead and Ranelagh School, Bracknell.
Following the presentation of the Awards the school representatives joined the CPRE Berkshire Trustees in a celebration buffet lunch in the CPRE Office.
